Kelsmere Curly Coated Retrievers
The Kelsmere affix was first registered at the Kennel Club in 1970 and was
the home of our successful kennel of American Cocker Spaniels, with seven Show
Champions in the UK, 22 dogs in the Stud Book and Numerous winners overseas.
In the mid 1980's our first curly coated retriever joined us from Mrs Phil
Beardsworth's Roydina kennel. 'Lottie' was to become our first Show Champion
Curly SH CH ROYDINA CATRIONA AT KELSMERE. She was later joined by CORRITANI AT
KELSMERE sired by Sh Ch Roydina Cassanova. And from these our kennel has gone
from strength to strength.
Our most influential dog has been and still is 'Sorrel' SH CH OAKLEIGH OBERON
AT KELSMERE, not only is he a wonderful dog to live with and a super show dog he
is a great sire of top quality offspring. Truly a dog in a lifetime.
The curly is the biggest and heaviest of all retrievers and has either a
liver or black coloured distinctive coat of crisp tight curls, which is easily
cared for.
It is a slow maturing breed, responding well to training and makes a good
guard with a very deep bark. Their temperament makes them excellent with
children and other dogs, being often 'stand offish' and aloof with strangers,
however they make loyal and biddable companions and pets.
They love human company and will do as little or as much as you require.
